This post is to thank David Hockney for making available two of his recent iPad drawings to my teaching program at the School of Art at the Australian National University.
David Hockney iPad drawings
We celebrated these impressive drawings, which are in every sense true digital art works, as part of Core Computer Studies lecture to our 1st year students and guests. I decided to display these works on two Apple iPads, the very platform/media they were created on.

David Hockney drew them during his stay at Glyndebourne, a 700-year old country house and opera house in East Sussex, England. There he recreated the stage-set for the opera ‘The Rake’s Progress’ by Stravinsky . Looking closely at these drawings one gets a sense of this location. The drawings titled: ‘iPad 6 8 2010’ & ‘iPad 7 8 2010’ were sent as email attachments on 21 August 2010.

Of all the artists I would have least expected that David Hockney would have been involved with the ipad in regards to art. Brilliant work!
Thanks for your comment. David Hockney has experimented with ‘new technologies’ in the past, like faxes and photocopiers when they first came out. You might like to check an interesting series of YouTube clips showing Hockney drawing with one of the first digital programs developed for television that has a stylus as its main input device. He immediately defines/applies the significant differences of this media and creates new works with it.
I think David Hockney has more “pigments” on his IPad than I do!! I must try to find out what program he is using. So far I have been having a LOT of fun with “Paper” [53]

I understand David Hockney used the ‘Brushes’ app first on his iPhone then on the iPad. It is available as a free app on Apple’s App store.
I tried it and failed, its the skill and knowledge about painting that makes David Hockney’s drawings so special. sorry for the late response.
